Ageing Well with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a free online course that explores what ageing is and how it intersects with multiple sclerosis. Throughout the course we will give you strategies for healthy ageing, and help you plan for the future.

The course consists of three modules. On successful completion you will be able to:

  • Describe ‘typical’ ageing and how this might differ to MS related disease processes
  • Understand how other medical conditions and medications affect MS symptoms, and decide if a review of the medicines you take is needed
  • Describe why keeping engaged mentally is important, and develop strategies to keep the brain active
  • Understand personal coping strategies and make a plan to maintain healthy coping strategies
  • Discuss what resilience is and how to build it
  • Discuss simple tips for managing work, and how best to manage the transition away from work
  • Develop a plan for simple lifestyle changes to plan for the future
  • Understand what community services might be of use
  • Discuss what is valued if moving into residential care is required

This course was developed by the MS Research FlagshipMenzies Institute for Medical Research at the University of Tasmania in collaboration with the MS community and the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre. Funding for the course development has been provided by the Australian Government.
